Stock Sentry learns your sales patterns to provide accurate predictions year-round.
What Are Seasonal Patterns?
Many products sell at different rates by season. Stock Sentry tracks these patterns and adjusts predictions so alerts remain accurate whether it's peak season or off-season.
How It Works
- Monthly Analysis: Sales aggregated by month across years
- Baseline Calculation: Average monthly sales establish baseline
- Multiplier Generation: Each month receives a multiplier
- Prediction Adjustment: Current velocity adjusted by multiplier
Understanding Multipliers
| Multiplier | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 1.0 | Average (baseline) |
| 1.5 | 50% higher than average |
| 2.0 | Double average |
| 0.5 | Half average (off-season) |
Example: 100 units/month normally, 180 in December = 1.8 multiplier.
Configuration
Navigate to Settings > Seasonal Adjustments.
Enable/Disable: Turn seasonal adjustments on/off globally.
Lookback Period:
- 12 months: Minimum for basic patterns
- 24 months (recommended): Year-over-year comparison
- 36 months: Most accurate for consistent products
Manual Overrides: Set custom multipliers for specific months when historical data doesn't reflect expectations.
Best Practices
Works best for: Holiday items, seasonal apparel, weather-dependent products, event-driven items.
Use caution with: New products, trending items, one-time viral products.
Recommended Settings:
- Established stores (2+ years): Enable with 24-month lookback
- Newer stores (<1 year): Disable initially, enable after 12 months
Troubleshooting
Wrong predictions during peak?
- Verify seasonal adjustments enabled
- Increase lookback to 24 months
- Set manual multipliers if needed
Too many off-season alerts?
- Enable seasonal adjustments
- Set lower multipliers for off-season months
Data Requirements: 12+ months history, 10+ sales/month for reliable multipliers.
